Flexiform continues our partnership with Highways England, transforming their Manchester office. Undergoing previous office fit-outs at Basingstoke, Darlington and Warrington, Highways England approached us again to re-work their old office into an agile working office space. Their aim was to consolidate two floors into one floor and transform 33% of the office into sit/stand desking and introduce various collaborative workspaces including group working, semi-private meeting spaces, informal meeting spaces, group discussion and presentation, and breakout spaces. With initial plans already in place, our Space Planning team offered support in amending plans with updated furniture specifications and best practices.
This office furniture installation took place in 2022 following the global Covid-19 pandemic, as a precaution Flexiform continued to follow Covid-19 social distancing, isolation and hygiene protocols to ensure staff and clients’ safety. All Government guidelines were followed throughout the project.
Re-using Furniture & Disposal
As part of Highways England, Piccadilly Gate’s existing offices weren’t that old, it was vital we re-used furniture where possible. With an in-house Design & Engineering team, we were able to re-use their existing desk framework and re-work a number of old worktops onto our Jot-Up sit/stand height adjustable desks, saving them from going to waste. Like all our manufacturing waste, the furniture components we disposed of are converted to energy, ensuring we are a Zero-to-Waste company.
Smart Working Office Design
To create pockets of agile workspaces, we installed a wide range of collaborative office furniture in various styles, shapes and power capabilities in order to accommodate different tasks and group sizes. The largest workspace installed was a U-shaped modular office sofa for internal presentations, team meetings and group discussions seating up to 16 members of staff, followed by the Channel Work Table for 12 people. The work and meeting table was fitted with laptop & mobile charging alongside comfortable meeting chairs for long-stay group working and meetings. Two Jot-Up Meet height-adjustable tables were also installed to accommodate 6-12 staff, these sit/stand tables are ideal for high energy group working where members are encouraged to move and collaborate, complimented by the Jot-Up height-adjustable stool with a rocking base and rotating seat pad.
Office Booths & Pods
Within the Smart Working office, we also installed a range of collaborative sound-absorbing meeting booths, solo work booths and office pods, with some booths specified with TV monitors, an integral table and power and data to support laptops. These various office booths are designed to hold a wide range of meetings including quiet solo working, 1-2-1 semi-private meetings, and group discussions, collaborations and presentations for 4-6 people. All the booths and pods feature acoustic properties to mitigate noise and create a semi-private workspace.
Dividing & Partitioning Workspaces
Within the office furniture installation, we installed a range of FlexiGrid display shelving to divide workspaces without completely shutting them off, giving staff more privacy and comfort. The FlexiGrid bookcases were installed with shelving and integral planters, enhancing the existing biophilic touches and increasing staff wellbeing. Together we managed to achieve a Smart Working flexible workspace, achieving Highways England’s goals to increase staff wellbeing and productivity. Scroll down to see more Highways England projects.
