Continuing the success of National Highways Preston office refurbishment, Flexiform completes the installation of collaboration and meeting furniture for their Penrith (Cumbria) offices. The two projects revisited 2016/2017 office furniture installations with traditional open plan office designs, featuring back-to-back bench desks, storage lockers and office storage cabinets, meeting room furniture, and a basic canteen.
National Highways wanted to refresh the workspace to accommodate new ways of working. Post Covid-19, their staff are hybrid working using the office as a collaborative space to discuss projects. The brief was to update the existing office fitout with new, colourful and innovative office furniture to increase collaboration and meeting areas, alongside an update of their reception. Flexiform dismantled existing desking to make way for the new furniture, with the old furniture re-used on another site in line with National Highways sustainability targets.

Smart Working Office Furniture
Flexiform’s approach within the Penrith office refurb was to create more flexible workspaces with movable lounge chairs, stacking chairs and modular flip-top tables. This allows Penrith staff to create small informal meeting spaces and larger discussion spaces when required.
The Channel work table provided a dedicated space to collaborate and focus, accommodating up to 6 people and teamed up with the Cyla chair, a 5-star base work chair with a supportive mesh back and tilt mechanism to keep staff comfortable all day. The Bob enclosed office pods were installed for private team calls and meetings with an acoustic construction to absorb noise, complete with PIR lighting, a quiet ventilation system, integral seats and table and a monitor bracket for the perfect set up.
Reception Counter
To complete the office refurbishment, Flexiform installed a large reception desk with cable management, a task chair and a wheelchair-accessible access point. The area was finished with a high-back lounge chair, corner sofa and coffee table to create a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Both National Highways and Flexiform were delighted with the result and look forward to collaborating in the future.
